Applying for a grant
What do we look for?
- We examine the finances of organisations and the other sources of funding for a project,
- We consider references,
- We assess the overall quality of the project,
- We have to be certain the project involves people with learning disabilities. We are happy to fund something that will involve just 1 person if that is meaningful or a project that benefits many more,
- The project has to have a link to the arts or people’s social lives,
- We want to encourage inclusive projects which involve people with learning disabilities undertaking activities alongside a wide variety of people,
- We want projects to take the views of people with learning disabilities into consideration in their design and organisation,
- We try to avoid funding organisational running costs and things that have traditionally been covered by statutory funds,
- We encourage accessible easy read ways of reporting on projects.
Things we do not fund and have to avoid:
- Generalised disability projects that cannot specify the numbers of people with learning disabilities,
- Projects that focus on groups who may or may not have learning disabilities (e.g: People who have been diagnosed as having Autism, Cerebral Palsy or Special Educational Needs) UNLESS the project is specific about how people from those groups who have learning disabilities will be involved,
- Over £7000 for any project.

At the end of a project you can report back to us in a number of ways. You can report back to us using the Project Report template.
We are always keen to see people with learning disabilities involved in this feedback process. To support you to feedback in an inclusive and inspiring way you can also report on your project using a Wiki report. You can see an example of a wiki here rixwiki.org/9069. We are very happy to support you to develop a wiki in this way. If you want a wiki or support to produce one please get in touch.
We are always delighted to speak with people about possible ways in which we can work together to support people with a learning disability to have a creative and social life whatever age they are and wherever they live in the UK. If you want to support this aim we would be delighted to hear from you.
You can also donate directly either by making a gift or donating by filling out this form or online Link to Charity fundgiving page, or by remembering us in your will.
If you wish to make a gift and you live in the UK your gift should be directed to ‘The Rix-Thompson-Rothenberg Foundation’ Company Reg No 1638962 (England), Charity Commission No 285368.
