Our funding partners
Over the years we have worked closely with many organisations and individuals not just as funders and but also by receiving funding from them. These funders recognise our experience in working with small projects involving the arts and supporting the social lives of people with a learning disability.
We are always interested in developing new collaborations with other organisations or individuals. This might be in the form of nominating us an organisational charity, seeking to support us through donations, or in building a collaborative approach in which we can target funds for a partner.
Over the years we have had four particularly important relationships with the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund, MCIS Ltd, the Andor Charitable Trust and the Rix Centre at the University of East London.
- We have had an established link with the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund for a great many years. The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund is a grant making registered charity which was established primarily to aid the research into learning disability and to aid the care and relief of those affected by learning disability by making grants to voluntary organisations working in this field. For many years they have provided us with a regular annual donation. The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund have seen RTR as a very useful partner to whom they pass smaller funding applications which they feel fall outside their area of expertise.
- From 1992 until early 2015 we received an annual donation from insurance brokers, MCIS Ltd, which focussed on charities and private individuals. In its early years Brian Rix, Neville Thompson and Helmut Rothenberg were on the board of MCISLtd.
- We also receive regular and generous support from The Andor Charitable Trust. The trust seeks to maintain, support or contribute charitable organisations in the United Kingdom including those engaged in medical and ancillary services, education, helping the aged and disabled, relieving poverty, developing the arts.
- Over the last decade we have worked with the Rix Centre to nurture and develop a range of groups around the UK so that they can be better placed to be self-funding self-advocates. One such group is Purple Stars. As a result of our collaboration, Purple Stars have gained commissions and been involved in funding applications with Museum Partners across the UK. Our strategic work with the centre also led to the development of Inclusive Research and Multimedia Advocacy approach to Peer Support with local people with learning disabilities, that secured paid research and evaluation commissions from NHS England, Scottish Supported Employment and Small Business Research Initiative Southwest, and peer training for local groups in East London.
You can support the work of RTR as an individual. Over the years as well as donations we have had generous support from people who have been involved in fundraising efforts such as running. Tax relief in the form of Gift Aid will normally be available to UK taxpayers on donations made to us.
We have also been supported by individuals leaving bequests in their wills. By leaving a legacy to us, you can help to reduce your inheritance tax liability as any bequest to a charity is deducted from the value of your estate before inheritance tax liability is calculated. For larger bequests there may also be a reduction in the rate of Inheritance tax; we advise you to take professional advice if this is of interest to you.
We will look after all gifts and donations with care and gratitude, making sure it put to good long-term use so that it has the greatest impact for the purposes you intended. If you wish, you can specify how your gift should be used by the Foundation for the benefit of people with learning disabilities.
However, you choose to support us, by making a gift to The RTR Foundation or a legacy in your will, you can help us open doors, raise the roof and create opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
